Soy Candle Wicks
Candle wicks are an important part of your candle. While the wax
and fragrance are important, the candle wick you use will determine how your candle will burn. Finding the
perfect candle wick to use in a pillar candle is much more
difficult than finding the candle wick for your jar candle, since having a larger melting pool in your container
does not mean you have a mess on the floor!!
Generally speaking, the size of the candle wick
you will need depends on the diameter of the container you want to use. This is a guideline, and shouldn't be
taken as "the candle wick law!" There are a lot of variables that go into determining your candle wick size.
In general I use tabbed candle wicks. These
candle wicks already have the metal disc crimped on the bottom of the wick. This makes candle making much
easier! For votive candles and other small molded and container or
jar candles I will generally use a votive candle wick. These are the
perfect length for a votive candle mold.
For larger containers I use HTP candle wicks. These candle wicks can be purchased online
from many sellers. They do not have a wire core but burn hotter than most candle wicks. Here is a list of
available HTP wicks and the relative candle sizes. Please note that all of these are approximately 6 ¾
inches long.
- HTP – 73: this candle wick is best used in a container of up to 2 inches in diameter.
- HTP - 83: this candle wick is best used in a container of up to 2 ½ inches in diameter.
- HTP - 93: this candle wick is best used in a container of up to 2 ¾ inches in diameter.
- HTP - 104: this candle wick is best used in a container of up to 3 inches in diameter.
- HTP - 105: this candle wick is best used in a container of up to 3 ¼ inches in diameter.
- HTP - 121: this candle wick is best used in a container of up to 3 ¾ inches in diameter.
For larger container sizes, feel free to experiment with multiple candle wicks in your soy candle!
