Candle Wax

In the art of candle making, the candle wax is probably the most important ingredient. That is obviously apart from the love of creating little works of art.

Paraffin Wax

Paraffin wax is nowadays the most common and the cheapest candle wax used in candle making. It is available in many shapes (by these I mean chunks, blocks, squares and even flakes) and can be purchased by weight. It is usually sold in its pure, bluish-white color, which renders it an excellent wax if you want to make color the expression of your artistic flair. It is to this end that small colored paraffin wax chunks can be melted and molded to make a multi-colored 'chunk' or 'block' candle.

Beeswax

Beeswax can be purchased in various forms as well. It is available in blocks or sheets, colored or natural, flat or honeycombed, scented and unscented.

Just think of how fulfilling it can be to roll your own beeswax candles. It is a very simple process and thus presents you with an economical way to enjoy the qualities of this otherwise more expensive natural candle. These rolled beeswax candles can make excellent gifts: for small occasions and housewarming gifts.

Soy Wax

Yet another type of candle wax: Soy wax and other vegetable-based natural waxes can be purchased in various forms. They are available in flakes by the pound and involve a bit more work in terms of finishing than that required for paraffin wax. Due to soy candle wax being very gel-like you could add palm wax to the soy wax to enhance rigidity and still enjoy an all-natural product. What is further a factor to consider is that soy wax is significantly less cost intensive than beeswax.

What ever your choice of candle wax always keep in mind that candle waxes have different melting and congealing points - This is important to consider in making different types of candles. You also do not have to struggle when making a choice since there are currently many instruction guides and books available to help in choosing the right candle wax and with melting and pouring techniques. Candle wax is widely available on wholesale candle and candle making supplies sites.
