Aromatherapy Methods

Aromatherapy, a practice once viewed with skepticism, has now been incorporated into our everyday lives because of its effectiveness and availability to the general population. Aromatherapy has permeated so many spheres of our lives that some people might not even realize that they have been practicing aromatherapy all along. Many people for example, do not know that when they burn scented candles, contemplate in a fragrant garden or take a bath with essential oils that they are practicing aromatherapy. In fact, aromatherapy can be adopted into our everyday lives in the following treatments:

  • Aromatherapy Air Freshener - Place a warm mix of water and essential aromatherapy oil into a lamp ring and place over a light bulb. The lamp ring will diffuse aromatic fragrance molecules as the bulb heats up.
  • Aromatherapy Bath or Spa - Add 2 to 5 drops of essential aromatherapy oil to spa or bath water, or mix with your favorite bubble bath or mineral salts for an aromatherapy treatment.
  • Aromatherapy Candles - To intensify a scented candle put two drops of essential oil near the candle wick and light.
  • Aromatherapy Compress - Add 2 to 5 drops of your favorite aromatherapy oil to a bowl of warm water, drench a towel in the mixture and apply to the problem area.
  • Aromatherapy Diffuser - Mix scented essential oil to water, with a ratio of 1 part oil to 3 parts water, in the diffuser's glass bowl. The tea light candle underneath will heat and diffuse aromatic vapors throughout a room and be beneficial to holistic health healing.
  • Aromatherapy Foot Soak - Soak tired, achy feet in warm water with lavender or peppermint aromatherapy oil.
  • Aromatherapy Massage - Add 5 to 10 drops of essential aromatherapy oil to 1 ounce of carrier oil, for example sweet almond, jojoba, or sunflower oil, and gently knead the holistic treatment into the skin.
  • Natural Skin Care Products - Add 2 drops of aromatherapy oil to unscented lotions, hair care, facial and bath products. They become aromatic and promote holistic healing.
  • Steam Aromatherapy Inhalation - Add 2 to 5 drops of aromatherapy oil to a bowl of boiled water and place a towel over your head - inhale the steam approximately 10 to 12 inches away.
